All I can say is Apple better be coming out with a mid-range tower. Upping the baseline of the MacPro to $2500, what is that. Sure it looks like a sweet computer, but what about small businesses or starving artists who cant afford that. Now we're stuck with the all-in-ones.

I just upgraded to a (2011) 13" MBP and I'm still trying to get a 32 GB iPad 2 (Wi-Fi only) as my first iOS device. I'm giving my old (2010) 13" MBP to a friend.
But later this year, when my mortgage is paid off, I might spring for my first iPhone (although i'm still concerned the small screen may be unmanageable for me... due to vision issues which may, or may not, be resolved later this year).
Also, when my mortgage is paid off, I'll consider getting a MobileMe account and next year perhaps a 128 GB iPad 3 (Wi-Fi + LTE/G3 GSM). If I get that iPad 3, I'll give my old iPad 2 to a friend.
But all this is a matter of treating myself to toys that I do not really need. First I need to focus on financial fundamentals like paying off my mortgage.

I've never heard of this company -- are they reputable, does anyone know? I've heard all sorts of stories abut these types of things being spyware or some such, don't want to pollute my Mac with any of that garbage!
See my message just after yours, they are not well known because they only sell to very large corporates. Ten years ago I ran Sophos AV on all our company computers. I went for Sophos because its reputation was streets ahead of all the competition. Everyone I spoke to at the time seemed to have some a range of AV horror stories/problems that they no longer suffered after switching to Sophos.
Excellent support, whenever a new virus appeared, Sophos would have an update out within minutes/hours, sometimes this was a temporary fix, with a final version out a few hours later. Telephone support was excellent with phone answered in seconds. Used virtually no resources when running.
As I said in other email, I stopped using it only because I lost my free "employees" license when I left the company that I had bought it for and couldn't justify the �100 + to buy a home license. I'm afraid I found everything else I tried (Norton, McAfee etc) to be very poor alternatives. Eventually settling on ESET NOD32, which while still taking more resources than Sophos, and only having daily updates rather than the minute by minute updates from Sophos, it was still the best of the ones I tried.

Just gave the problem to my 12 year old brother. Yup, its 288. To all you people who still believe it's 2, I hope you don't deal with math a lot in your careers. It might also be a good idea for you to hire somebody else to do your taxes ;)

That is a little odd, since they're basically all describing the same thing. Why would the MBP say "It's Showtime" yet the iMac and Mac Mini descriptions use "Put on a Show?" I doubt Apple would waste their time on a tablet. The market has proven that there is little demand for them.
I add another vote for "before the iPod, the market proved worthless for mp3 players". I use a PDA and have used tablets briefly in the past and have to say they have their place. For me, it's PDAs all the way, especially when I see the Samsung Q1 and how clumsily put together that was. Let Apple loose and we may see something in that form factor worth getting.
It could open them back up for that market too, and who also remembers the rumours and/or video of the multi-touch screen that surfaced a while back, and it was suggested Apple were behind it? Stepping stones? I wouldn't like to see the Newton name again, whatever the product. It would be great to see it, but would feel too much like looking back. Also, if it were OSX based, what would be the point? Not Newton OS. I have mine and the name deserves its place in history, not the present.

Is it possible to order online and pick up in a specified store when available?

Sounds like they're talking about one of their GPS devices, but its probably the same.
I live in Vermont, which is even colder, and leave my car kit in the car overnight; FWIW it's probably gotten colder than -4F and it still works fine.

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

I think we're ready now to have a Merom mini at the house. It's the perfect machine for the townhome 'cuz it'll boot any OS we need and takes up absoultely bupkes for space. Whee!! And a 19" flatpanel. And a fat external HD.

Apple is showing "64-bit" in the one banner.
That banner is showing Apple's existing products, not future products. The 64 bit logo is no doubt referring to the current line of G5 machines.

Definitely. The naysayers are seriously upset about features they don't have to use (but probably will end up loving anyway)? Come on.
If anything Lion brings a different "feel" to the use of the mac, and as Apple has been showing almost continuously for 30+ years now, its the experience that get people hooked.

Android costs money to develop. Android from what has been put out there is free for companies to use with no licensing fee. So how is Google able to generate money to pay people to code and maintain the software?
1. Google is generating money through it's normal search business which is well documented to know where you are at (physically and on the web) and where you have been (on the web).
2. Google is generating money through advertising generated via the Android platform. If this is the case, it would seem very like they would employ the same tactics used in standard desktop web advertising in the mobile spectrum. Why all the hate for the jailbreak? Are you guys just too moronic to use it? Any iOS device is infinitely more capable when it is jailbroken. Without some of the apps in the Cydia store, many would say the iphone/ipad/touch is unusable. What is on your lockscreen all of you unjailbroken users? A measly clock? You cant access all your mail, notifications, calendar events, and the weather from your lockscreen? Are you serious? Oh you want to turn off bluetooth? You can't swipe across the bottom of the screen to toggle it? Want integrated google voice? Apple says no. Cydia says **** that, hell yes. I would wager that most of the jailbreak haters dont even know what its capable of nor have ever tried it before. Stay in your cave and watch shadows if you will. The rest of us will experience the real world.

I did however get tired of the slowness of cydia app and how unorganized it was. It was also aggravating how i had to wait to update after everyone else because my phone was jailbroken and i didn't want to lose what i had. I don't hate it, but i don't love it either. It has positives and negatives like everything.

Being that iP4 and iP5 will have the same form factor, wouldn't it make sense for Apple to make the 4 the same as the 5, i.e. no glass on the back and whatever other external changes the 5 brings? I would think they would be able to save money...same on the outside, different on the inside.
So maybe it will be a release of the 4S and 5?

You can't logically predict that Lion on the App Store will have to follow the rules of the other Apps. Lion does not fit the definition of any other product currently on the store. It's an operating system with different issues to deal with than a simple app.

Well... it doesn't have Flash support, or 4G, or the fastest multi-core processor, or the largest screen!
Now of course, lack a Flash has not been a big deal for me, and just because 90% of the US does not have 4G yet doesn't matter. I know if I see someone with more specs than my iPhone I instantly start having technowhinnieitis attacks and feel inferior... even though my iPhone works great, is fast, has the best screen on the market and iOS is easy to use and work with... does not matter! I want more!!!! :rolleyes:

My problem isn't necessarily with Apple, my grief is with carriers who have tied most of us in to 2 year fixed contracts. Whether this is due to Apple's insistence, or whether carriers have signed up to the 'yearly cycle' idea, there are thousands of us stuck in the middle here.
Any 3GS user who bought new and has a 2 year contract (usually because it was the most economical) now has a huge dilemma. Do we switch phones and get new contracts on different phones, or do we go Pay As You Go to cover those 3/4 (potentially more) months?
Ultimately, if happens, I'll end up going for the new BlackBerry Bold Touch (Dakota), just because I don't want to be strung along for a few months, racking up minutes/text/data costs. It'll be sad, but ultimately, its just a phone I guess...
NB: ALL OF THE ABOVE IS PREFACED BY AN 'IF THE RUMOUR HAPPENS'!
I don't see how anyone has a huge dilemma. If you're saying those that bought a 3GS on launch, didn't upgrade last year, and now are at the end of a 2 year have a "problem", that doesn't sound like much of a problem to me.
Call up AT&T and say your contract is up, you'd like to renew and buy a new iPhone which you qualify for, but you're not buying a new iPhone until iPhone 5 comes out. If they don't allow you a grace period until iPhone 5 is available, tell them you're gone, and that Verizon seems like a good option since AT&T doesn't want you for another 2 years.
The difference between public policy and what they can/will do for you when you're "threatening" to switch, is very different. The only time you have any leverage to get something you want out of AT&T is a once every two years opportunity when you're contract is up and you have the option of switching.
